From Art Institute of Chicago:
A pupil of Manet, Eva Gonzalés was one of the few women artists of the era who gained recognition. In treating a subject extensively explored by Manet, Degas, and Tissot at about the same time, Gonzalés alluded to the secondary occupation of many young working girls as prostitutes.
